HGTV Dream Home 2006

Grey Rock by Lake Lure, North Carolina

For the 2006 Dream Home, HGTV selected the resort community of Grey Rock, located on the shores of Lake Lure, North Carolina.
The Dream Home was designed to bring the beauty of the outdoors into the house.

The Great Room

In the living room of the 2006 Dream Home, pale gold walls, a massive stacked stone fireplace, built-in book cases and a soaring ceiling all combine to create the sense that you’re in a very special haven. The huge windows frame an incredible view of mountains and Lake Lure off in the distance.

The Dining Room

While the room serves as a passageway between the two wings of the house, it also functions as a living room for guests, a refreshing space for reading, chatting, or even visiting with friends over a cup of tea. The walls and ceiling are painted a vivid shade of apple green, and the built-in-bookcases and window trim are painted a fresh cream that provides a clean contrast.

The Family Room

The family room is an inviting space to curl up on the softly textured sofa in front of the fireplace and watch the huge plasma television over the mantel. Or for an even better picture, shift ever so slightly and take in the ever-changing views outside the big French doors instead.

The Kitchen and Breakfast nook

Deep grays, rich brown woods and accents of golden yellow work together to create a room that’s comfortable and welcoming.

The unique views seen through the large windows framing the breakfast nook makes this a wonderful place for your morning coffee. These have to be some of the most comfortable chairs I have ever seen around a breakfast table. I could spend hours here!

The Master Bedroom and the Master Bathroom

"It’s like being in a sunflower," says designer Linda Woodrum. The airy white walls and ceiling and the bright golden yellow and brown accents in the fabrics evoke a sunny meadow on a warm, lazy summer day.
The master bath that adjoins the sunny bedroom offers a tranquil escape into nature, both inside and outside its expansive windows. I love the idea of the wicker basket filled with all kinds of wonderful bath products.

The Guest Bedroom

The light, airy upstairs bedroom in the main part of the house is every guest’s dream; a fantasy retreat that gives one the sense of being completely and utterly away from it all. With its creamy white walls, soaring peaked ceiling (painted an amazing shade of sky blue), and enormous view window overlooking vast vistas of the mountains and lake, the room gives you the sense that you’re part of the sky. "It’s like being in a cloud," says designer Linda Woodrum.

"I knew instantly the blue ceiling would be the only color for this room," says Woodrum, who chose Sherwin-Williams’ "Blissful Blue" for the ceiling as well as the walls in the attached full bathroom. The paint color changes with the light, depending on the time of day, the weather, and the seasons unfolding outside.

  3. Several years ago when this lovely home was the HGTV dream home, God told me it would one day be mine. This beautiful home is the perfect place to be revived, restored, and reminded of God's precious promises. I expect Him to give me the keys so it will bless me and others very soon.

    God is always faithful!
